Cory Booker has been talking in the senate for over 20 hours now

He’s not filibustering. He’s protesting the current administration.

what-even-is-thiss

For those of you from outside the US or those of you who didn’t pay attention in government class, in the US senate there’s really no limit to the amount of time a senator can speak. So sometimes if they don’t want a bill to pass they just. Don’t stop talking. To hopefully get past the deadline to vote on a bill. This is called filibustering.

Senator Cory Booker isn’t doing that. He’s disrupting “the normal business of the United States Senate for as long as I am physically able”. Just in protest. This doesn’t usually happen.

what-even-is-thiss

He’s less than 20 minutes away from breaking the record of the longest speech given on the senate floor

what-even-is-thiss

Cory Booker has officially broken Strom Thurmond’s record for longest speech on the senate floor and he’s still going

what-even-is-thiss

For those of you wondering what he’s been talking about this whole time, his staff wrote down a bunch of stuff for him to read like stories from people across the political spectrum opposed to what the administration is doing. He’s also been telling personal anecdotes about meeting important civil rights leaders and other democratic senators have been pausing him for “questions” but the questions have been as long as a small speech and have both served the purpose of giving him a second to sit down and updating him on the news that he’s been missing while he’s been talking.

what-even-is-thiss

He has yielded the floor at 25 hrs and 4 mins. His eyes are so wide they look like they’re going to bug out of his skull so I don’t blame him for stopping. He said to go out and get in some good trouble.

queerscout

Addition for those unaware: Cory Booker is black. Strom Thurmond set the previous record about 70 years ago in protest of civil rights. Booker spent much of the time I was watching talking about the importance of working together for the people and the idea that it's not "left versus right but right versus wrong."

The new record speech is on the right side of history.

mcu: we have healed bucky of his trauma

us: you fucked with perfectly good character is what you did. look at him. you made him seem culpable for the horrors he faced over decades as a pow and then stripped him of any of his actual support systems and expect us to believe he is suddenly happy and everything is fine because he smiled at a bbq.

he did! and i cannot believe the first thing they did after he died was create this arc for him, disgusts me,

confusedguytoo

maybe being told that is why he was willing to go along with Bucky doing that.  It sounds dumb as shit, but it’s also something a traumatized person might be willing to go along with

oldgayseasoning

i’m not sure what you’re saying, can you please clarify? /gen

confusedguytoo

Well, I can’t imagine the TV shows were part of the movie contracts, so I’m thinking when the story was pitched he had to sign on.  And him picturing Bucky trying to be a decent guy would be why he was cool with this story arc.

The problem with some of the stuff in fiction is it can get so far removed from reality the ideas of how it compares to reality are strained

oldgayseasoning

I think you’ve misinterpreted what I’m saying. My criticisms of this show have nothing to do with Sebastian and everything to do with the MCU itself. The Stan Lee comment is not to dig as Sebastian for being contractually obligated, it’s a dig at the MCU for deciding to narratively frame Bucky as a villain as soon as Stan died in 2018. They’d started on that path back during Civil War, Bucky loosing his arm and going back into cryo was intended by the creators to be a punishment.

They knew that this story would have a social impact, after saying Bucky has to make amends because he can’t “hide behind his lack of control” they had the gal to say they hope trauma survivors would feel represented by their victim blaming narrative. They could have done a really powerful arc about recovery and survivors guilt but they didn’t because his trauma is a burden to them and they cannot reconcile Bucky’s canon lack of autonomy and abuse with their narrow views of masculinity. They stripped the character of many traits that made people love him in the first place and replaced them with a character he never was.

It being fiction does not change the fact that many professionals in the field of psychology spoke out about how harmful Bucky’s storyline is to real life people. This show frames the horrible stigma trauma survivors face as good and right and that has had a negative impact I’ve witnessed first hand.

confusedguytoo

did they say it was a punishment after Civil War?  Cause it doesn’t seem that way to me.  It just seems like an acknowledgement he was potentially dangerous

have any of them responded to the comments on why they treated his trauma wrong?

gay-jewish-bucky

M&M on Bucky going into Cryo at the end of CW (sourced from this article) tw: horrific victim blaming

Q: Why was it necessary to put the winter soldier back on ice?

A: Well because, I mean for one thing he is, give or take his intellectual capacity, 100% guilty. And to have Steve just running around getting free salads with him on some island, it’s a little too unpunished, in a way. This is not a guy who should be running around happily. He may not be 100% guilty, but he’s damn sure not 100% innocent.

Q: Why does that not apply to Wanda Maximoff?

A: Wanda…

Q: You think she suffered enough?

A: I don’t think she did anything near as bad […] None of those things were terribly interesting to us, the punishing of nice people, who already feel guilt. In the Bucky issue is…it was a bridge too far I think.

I can’t even begin to unpack how fucked up these comments are, I feel sick just reading them. These are the same men who showed us in detail brutalization Bucky faced from Hydra.

Have any of them responded to criticism over how they dealt with Bucky’s trauma so poorly? No. I don’t think they ever will. The MCU has a history of constantly twisting the narrative to be the victim of industry/social bias against their movies.

luna-rainbow

Oof wow I didn’t realise how bad it was. Look, I liked the way WV dealt with Wanda and I lean towards being sympathetic about the circumstances that drove her choices. I don’t agree that she was “let off lightly” by the series cos she recognised her mistake and put herself into exile (MoM may retcon this badly but we’ll have to see). While Monica’s sympathy for her seemed excessive, I also think they were the right words to say at a time when Wanda is emotionally volatile. That said, Wanda did have the choice of several bad decisions in her life. Joining Hydra voluntarily, playing with the Avengers’ minds voluntarily, working with Ultron voluntarily, continuing her mind control over the township voluntarily even when she realised what was happening. Yes, a lot of those choices were made when she was young and gullible and probably didn’t have the full information, but she did have a choice. I’m not going to pin the blame of Lagos on her entirely because that’s a result of circumstance and poor training, not intention or negligence on her behalf.

Bucky, meanwhile, was literally shown by their own writing to have all his agency and memory wiped. His actions under Hydra were not in keeping with what he wants or intends, and his body had been hijacked by his torturers for their purpose, and his whole arc was about wresting autonomy back from his handlers.

It just boggles me that they can say he doesn’t deserve peace and that he isn’t innocent in things he had no choice in, then sidestep the question about Wanda’s culpability in her own choices. And Wanda is a “nice person who feels guilt so shouldn’t be punished” while Bucky is a nice person who feels guilt (for things he didn’t even choose to do!!!) and deserves to be punished?? And Wanda joining Hydra of her accord isn’t as bad as Bucky being tortured into compliance?

I am not hating on Wanda but this is just mind-boggling.

carol-effing-danvers

I’m kind of over the MCU as a whole, because tbh, I realized after the events of IW and EG that this franchise was not and never would give me what I wanted from it, which led me to an additional realization: in order for Bucky to fill the role they desired him to fill they couldn’t actually deal with this trauma in any rational or reasonable way. They hold him accountable for the actions of the Winter Soldier because that’s what he is to them. That’s what they want.

For him to react to this realistically, Bucky would likely refuse - completely understandably! - to ever go into the field of battle again, especially without Steve’s protection at the forefront of his mind. The MCU does not WANT James Buchanan Barnes, they do not care about Bucky the person. They want the Winter Soldier. Period, end of story.

gay-jewish-bucky

Since, I’m on a ‘mad about TFATWS’ kick, here’s yet more bullshit they’ve done to Bucky in the past!

Listen, I love pre-war stucky, but I also love the idea that one day after they got bucky back, steve and bucky are walking around new York and accidently stumble upon a fox news reported loudly announcing how steve hates gay people, clearly not noticing steve glaring daggers at the back of her head, so in retaliation, he grabs bucky, quietly telling him to play along, before making out with him in clear view of the camera, and that's how they start dating

Writing Tips

Punctuating Dialogue

➸ “This is a sentence.”

➸ “This is a sentence with a dialogue tag at the end,” she said.

➸ “This,” he said, “is a sentence split by a dialogue tag.”

➸ “This is a sentence,” she said. “This is a new sentence. New sentences are capitalized.”

➸ “This is a sentence followed by an action.” He stood. “They are separate sentences because he did not speak by standing.”

➸ She said, “Use a comma to introduce dialogue. The quote is capitalized when the dialogue tag is at the beginning.”

➸ “Use a comma when a dialogue tag follows a quote,” he said.

“Unless there is a question mark?” she asked.

“Or an exclamation point!” he answered. “The dialogue tag still remains uncapitalized because it’s not truly the end of the sentence.”

➸ “Periods and commas should be inside closing quotations.”

➸ “Hey!” she shouted, “Sometimes exclamation points are inside quotations.”

However, if it’s not dialogue exclamation points can also be “outside”!

➸ “Does this apply to question marks too?” he asked.

If it’s not dialogue, can question marks be “outside”? (Yes, they can.)

➸ “This applies to dashes too. Inside quotations dashes typically express—“

“Interruption” — but there are situations dashes may be outside.

➸ “You’ll notice that exclamation marks, question marks, and dashes do not have a comma after them. Ellipses don’t have a comma after them either…” she said.

➸ “My teacher said, ‘Use single quotation marks when quoting within dialogue.’”

➸ “Use paragraph breaks to indicate a new speaker,” he said.

“The readers will know it’s someone else speaking.”

➸ “If it’s the same speaker but different paragraph, keep the closing quotation off.

“This shows it’s the same character continuing to speak.”

TMNT (Bayverse) Headcanons: Fem!S/O Meets Master Splinter

@freakishfandomfiend said:

Could I get a request of Master Splinter meeting the turtles S/O and absolutely falling in love with her, wanting to adopt her immediately and telling the boys that they better marry her. Or something cute and sweet to that effect.

PS: prefer Bayverse or 2003 turtles

I got you! What a nice submission! I'm pretty backed up on posts now and finals are whooping my ass, so I've been pretty slow on updating and such (not to mention the last chapter of serendipity is still in the works, ugh)

Anyhoozle, I did this one a little different! It's still a long-shot, but instead of making individual one-shots for the boys, i wrote a universal one for all 4 of them at the bottom after all the hc's! I honestly hit writer's block when it came to writing the meeting splinter bit to be unique to each turtle 4 different times, so you could say i took the easy route LMAO

anyway I'll stfu

Please support this game! I've been following it forever and the developers obviously put a lot of love into finally repping my people as Not Just Generic Bad Guys To Be Slaughtered in QuickTime Events, but the unabashed horse girls we truly are. I really love how outspoken she is about representing proper care and compassion for these animals in the industry too.
