"Mutation March 2025, day 32 - a chair." Watercolor marker illustration of a green chair inspired by plants, but it is a creature inspired by the artist. The legs of the chair are arms and feet with little roots. The cushion of the chair is a bed of moss, with glasses and little bunny teeth on the front. The back of the chair extends up with small branches, splitting into two long braids with leaves growing out of them. Atop the chair is a bird nest with a robin in it.ALT

✨ Mutation March, day 32 - a chair ✨

What if a chair was a botanical beast, and also the artist? This little creature likes to wander around. If it stays still for too long, the legs will begin to root it in place.

"Mutation March 2025, day 31 - horse." Watercolor and marker illustration of a horse rearing up, but it has been combined with hydnora africana, a parasitc plant. The body and legs are approximately horse-shaped, but covered in a rough texture. The head splits open into three sections at the neck, each ending with a horse's nose, the inside lined with horse teeth. The tail resembles a smaller bud of a hydnora. The ears and eyes of the horse look normal.ALT

✨ Mutation March, day 31 - horse 🐎

As is tradition, we always end the month with the horse prompt. Here, I have combined one with a hydnora, a parasitic plant. What a majestic and cursed beast!

THANK YOU for tuning in and playing along! See all of the weird animals I made this month here, and perhaps pick up a print or three of some of them over here.

THE FINAL DAY of Mutation March is here with Horse Ghost Pipe! This one will need to be a sticker.

Thank you to @galusaurus for once again hosting this lovely challenge!

"Mutation March 2025, day 30 - cockatoo." Watercolor illustration of a cockatoo whose form has mutated into an impression of an aloe plant. The stalked flower of the plant is a cluster of parrot toes. The large leaves of the plant are the crest feathers of the bird. At the base of the plant is a single bird eye and a beak that opens up, revealing a mass of tongues reaching down like roots.ALT

I set out to create an uprooted aloe-inspired cockatoo, and while I don’t think I totally stuck the landing, I am pleased with the result.

galusaurus:

Greetings, my dear humans! I bring good news that small, glossy replicas of my art now exist. Huzzah!

Photo of the artist dressed in comfy colorful clothes and headbopper with Orbs, holding up three small art prints of some of their “Mutation March 2025: Botanical Beasts” drawings.ALT

❤️ Available here! Thank you. ❤️

If there are other drawings from Mutation March 2025 you would love to own as a mini print, please let me know! I started with these three as prints because I like them and they were well-received online, but there are a lot of good ones this year.

"Mutation March 2025, day 29 - chameleon." Marker and watercolor illustration of a cursed chameleon--its body is covered in clusters of holes, reminiscent of a lotus seed pod, and its head is covered in chameleon eyes. It is clinging to a pink lotus flower.ALT

✨ Mutation March, day 29 - chameleon ✨

I love lotus pods. Forget classic flower bouquets, just get me bunch of those hole-y vessels.
