This repo had only three files in common with the Python template: README.md, LICENSE and CITATION.cff

Actions:

create new repository structure with cookiecutter
move all newly created files except the three duplicates to existing repository, one-by-one, and add each of them to git
concatenate new README after existing README
edit updated README
commit updated README
commit all other new files
push to Github
