This fixes the "ctrl-D enters safe mode" which happened after the 2.2->3.0 merge (#510). The canary word setting code was commented out.
Note also that I removed the
load_serial_number()call that was part of the commented-out code, because it's called inserial_init(). @tannewt: if this is wrong, let me know.
