  • Add legalAcceptedAt: Date | null to UserResource in packages/types/src/user.ts
  • Aligns with existing User implementation and UserJSON (legal_accepted_at)
  • Non-breaking addition for improved type completeness

Note, the runtime value is already present:

if (data.legal_accepted_at) {
this.legalAcceptedAt = unixEpochToDate(data.legal_accepted_at);
}

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • User data now includes an optional legalAcceptedAt timestamp indicating when a user accepted legal terms (non-breaking).
    • Enables displaying or auditing legal acceptance, filtering users by acceptance status, and supporting compliance-related workflows.

- Add legalAcceptedAt: Date | null to UserResource in packages/types/src/user.ts
- Aligns with existing User implementation and UserJSON (legal_accepted_at)
- Non-breaking addition for improved type completeness

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

Adds an optional field legalAcceptedAt?: Date | null to the UserResource interface in packages/types/src/user.ts. A patch-level changeset for @clerk/types is included. The change exposes the legal_accepted_at value (as legalAcceptedAt) and does not modify or remove any other fields.

98-98: Add JSDoc for public API field

Public APIs should be documented. Please add a brief JSDoc to clarify semantics (server-sourced, null when not accepted).

-  legalAcceptedAt: Date | null;
+  /**
+ * Timestamp when the user most recently accepted legal terms (e.g., ToS/Privacy).
+ * Null if no acceptance is recorded. Mirrors UserJSON.legal_accepted_at.
+   */
+  legalAcceptedAt: Date | null;

98-98: Optional: add a minimal type test

If the repo uses tsd/dtslint, add a compile-time assertion that UserResource['legalAcceptedAt'] is Date | null.

.changeset/wild-loops-write.md (1)

5-8: Clarify optionality semantics to match the code

The code uses a non-optional field with null when not accepted, which is fine. Add a note so consumers don’t assume it’s optional.

 feat(types): add legalAcceptedAt to UserResource
 - Add legalAcceptedAt: Date | null to UserResource in packages/types/src/user.ts
 - Aligns with existing User implementation and UserJSON (legal_accepted_at)
 - Non-breaking addition for improved type completeness
+ - Non-optional property; will be null if the user hasn't accepted legal terms

**/*.{ts,tsx}: Always define explicit return types for functions, especially public APIs
Use proper type annotations for variables and parameters where inference isn't clear

🔇 Additional comments (2)
packages/types/src/user.ts (2)

98-98: LGTM — consistent with existing date-null patterns (e.g., lastSignInAt)

The addition aligns with UserJSON.legal_accepted_at and existing nullable Date fields.

98-98: legalAcceptedAt is correctly defined and mapped

  • In packages/types/src/json.ts (UserJSON), legal_accepted_at: number | null; (line 288) is present.
  • In packages/types/src/user.ts, the TS type declares legalAcceptedAt: Date | null;.
  • In packages/clerk-js/src/core/resources/User.ts, the constructor deserializes with
    this.legalAcceptedAt = unixEpochToDate(data.legal_accepted_at)
    and toJSON serializes with
    legal_accepted_at: this.legalAcceptedAt?.getTime() || null.

No further changes needed.
