Feedback

I have the automatic backups from earlier this year set up as a NFS share, and this worked just fine so far.

However today I received a repair item about Synology DSM not having a backup location set. It didn't immediately occur to me that this would be a duplicate service from the Synology integration, separate from the regular backup system

So I gave it the share name as well as the, what I thought would be correct, path.

Now I'm stuck with the message in the Backup Settings screen

Error in location Synology DSM
Failed to list backups

Unfortunately it does not seem possible to turn off this backup feature in the Synology DSM integration.

Thankfully this does not seem to result in the backup process failing. But I would like to be able to choose which option should be enable to begin with.

Hey there @hacf-fr, @Quentame, @mib1185, mind taking a look at this feedback as it has been labeled with an integration (synology_dsm) you are listed as a code owner for? Thanks!

you can just disable the backup location under Settings > System > Backups > Backup settings

Hi.
Same error with today's update to Core 2025.3.0
@mib1185 mentionned to disable the backup but I have not found that setting in any place in the "backup settings" in Settings > System > Backups (see attached screenshot)
Thanks

I thought I did, but it's not exactly clear when the backup location is enabled or disabled to me. There is a toggle input on the location itself but there's no explanation about what that switch does.

Image

If that switch does indeed toggle the location being used that's great, but it doesn't fix the error shown in the backups screen.

Image

Even with the location switched off it still complains about not being able to see the files.
In my opinion it shouldn't try to look for them if it's disabled.

It looks like you haven't actually set up the automatic backups yet. In that case you don't get to see all the extra options mentioned here.

I have setup the automatic backups and the notice
Error in location Synology DSM Failed to list backups
is still there.
Where can i change the DSM's backup location path?

You can set the path it should check for on the Synology DSM integration itself. It's not configured in the backup settings at all.

Image

Setting the path there does seem to work (apparently leaving out the normal leading slash!) so that at least gets the notification to go away.

The Backup Location section explains how to configure the backup feature in the Synology DSM integration. It also mentions, that the backup path is without any trailing slashes. If you've still issues with the feature itself, then please open an issue report in the HA core repository, thx 👍

What if you don't want to use the integration for backups at all?
I find it very strange that I have to select a folder, or that one is created, even though I don't want to use this feature.
(Perhaps you don't even have a folder for backups on your NAS and don't want to.)

Same issues here.
2 DSM's are found having "Error in location Synology DSM: LunaServer / Failed to list backups"

Image

One of them is used for backups and works fine (direct access to share). Other one never has been used, neither do i want to use it.

Can not remove these error conditions unfortunately.
