Bug summary

The color pattern that appears when using imshow, shows along a pcolor grid for an unknown reason. Creates conflicting grid and coloring sequence.

Code for reproduction

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import numpy as np

data = np.random.rand(10, 10)
plt.pcolormesh(data, edgecolors="k", linewidth=2)
ax = plt.gca()
ax.set_aspect("equal")
plt.imshow(data)
plt.show()

Matplotlib version

  • Operating system: Fedora 30 x86_64
  • Matplotlib version: 3.1.2
  • Matplotlib backend: TkAgg
  • Python version: 3.7.4
  • Other libraries: numpy==1.18.0

Note: matplotlib==3.1.2 was installed via pip
