It would be nice to provide a hook (perhaps setup.py test) to test directly from the build directory and not have to install first.
setup.py test
NB: astropy does this, and it's really nice.

Sorry, something went wrong.
Given the rise of environments (both venv and conda) being able to work I think we no longer need this.
It is easy enough for developers to spin-up a custom env and go from there.
