Fails with

Warning, treated as error:
don't know which module to import for autodocumenting 'axes' (try placing a "module" or "currentmodule" directive in the document, or giving an explicit module name)

Merged because this should not have been related to that method of doc failure and circle does not look at the merge commit so would have to re-base to get that to re-run.

I will follow up with another PR if this really did break the docs on 2.2.x.
