I'm using:
gitlab 6.3
ssl self-signed certificate

>>> gl = Gitlab('https://gitlab.XXXX.YYY.br', 'XXXXXXX', ssl_verify=False)
>>> gl.auth()
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
  File "gitlab.py", line 100, in auth
    self.token_auth()
  File "gitlab.py", line 118, in token_auth
    self.user = CurrentUser(self)
  File "gitlab.py", line 527, in __init__
    data = self.gitlab.get(self.__class__, data, **kwargs)
  File "gitlab.py", line 236, in get
    return r.json()
TypeError: 'dict' object is not callable

And if I try eith ssl_verify=True I get this:

....
gitlab.GitlabConnectionError: Can't connect to GitLab server (https://gitlab.XXXX.YYY.br/api/v3)

I've not been able to reproduce the problem on my local installation. Could you give me details about your configuration: OS, versions of python, python-gitlab and python-requests?

Thank you.

When checking for versions like you asked I noticed that my python-requests version was above the expected according to the requirements.txt file. I've first installed using the ubuntu repository, which is outdated.

I wonder if my approach wouldn't be common for ubuntu/debian users, so maybe would be nice to suggest the installation of the requirements using pip instead of the default packaging manager, or be more specific on that in the README.md file.

Debian 7
Python 2.7.3
python-requests 0.8.2-1
python-gitlab from repository master

Thank you for your attention and for the program you've developed!
