Similar failures also happen on 2 CI builds in #28461 so this is probably not related to dev dependencies.

My wild guess will be about pytest since this is the only one that has been updated.

Other packages such as threadpoolctl and fonttools are also updated but indeed I agree with you that pytest 8.0.1 seems to be the culprit here (as discussed in #28461 (comment)).
