I’m plotting my schemes

wherever I go,

they’re perfect in every way!

I’d love to destroy the blue one, you know!

He’s an obstacle that always gets in my way!

My first BIG pic of the year! It’s another remake of a much older pic of mine which I’ve always really liked but wanted so very much to do again now that a lot of my skills have improved in the fifteen-plus years since I’d made it, and after being inspired to re-do the linework a few years back as a birthday gift for @robotnik-mun, I got inspired this year to do a full digital version of it as well, though notably I wound up swapping out the 2006 Eggman design for Jimbotnik instead, which proved a unique but satisfying challenge.

okay I lied
have a super quick doodle of the bday boy~

Heh heh, the little lean of the head ‘n’ the Cool feel of the eyes definitely capture a very particular sort of Mood here that suits the theme just right. ^_^

Drawing my favourite Discworld couple

The distinctive details, from the mild stubble on the chin to the curly bounce of the hair to the aged lines of the faces, all feel VERY nicely observed here, and they flow together in such a believably organic yet also stylish way.

Tangle, Whisper and Lanolin at the Chao Garden

I definitely love the distinctive personality of each interaction, the clever ways each one reflects the specific character; Lanolin’s happy but a bit overwhelmed, Tangle is All In and VERY enthused, and Whisper is very gentle but also very affectionate. You render each one believably but vibrantly, and the clever way we go deeper into the scene with each one works nicely as well.

little WIP of Sinjin

Those burning eyes are GREAT, likewise the tight pull of the muscles across the pose.

You are not falling behind. If you haven’t touched your WIP in weeks, if you haven’t come up with a new idea, if you haven’t gotten your book done and it’s been 3 years, it’s okay. You are not falling behind. Unless we are obligated to reach a deadline, we begin to believe that we are failing. We see countless people finishing their projects, selling their books, succeeding in the field you’re in. And it’s hard not to compare yourself to them, you’re similar but they are doing the work, and you haven’t written a paragraph in over a month.

Comparing yourself to others is a downward spiral that will never give you satisfaction. It’s a difficult thing to try and overcome or ignore, but you have to. Instead of seeing other people’s victories as a failure on your side, try and see them as goals. Goals to reach, inspiration to get back to your WIP, write that paragraph, or finally try and finish that book.

There is no secret that they know, and you don’t. They aren’t worse or better than you. There is no right answer. No finish line you need to cross. You work at your own pace, create goals to strive to and try not to compare your progress to others. Enjoy the process!
