Have you thought about doing hands on main idea activities? Anytime that I can do hands on activities for my early elementary students, I make sure to incorporate them. You can easily try things like main topic mystery bags, gallery walks in the classroom, interactive anchor charts, and main idea craft. I also tie in the differences between fiction and nonfiction and text features. You can easily use these literacy strategies during literacy whole group, literacy small groups, and centers!
