The photo shows a man wearing a Chinese Mao suit also known as the Zhongshan suit (中山装). This style was introduced shortly after the founding of the Republic of China and is associated with Mao Zedong and Chinese communism. The basis of the suit was the Japanese cadet uniform based on the experience of Sun Yat-sen in Japan. Th suit has four outside pockets and there was also an inside pocket. It also started with seven buttons but was later reduced to five.
