Born in1830, the Rani of Jhansi was just 22 when she was forced to form an army and defend her Indian state against British domination. A fierce warrior, she strapped her child to her back and fought valiantly, but her army of 20,000 volunteers was no match for the might of the British military. Still, this marked the beginning of the movement against British rule, and there are numerous monuments, poems and films dedicated to the Rani of Jhansi's memory.
