YEAH BASICALLY it’s like he has a checklist somewhere for “things to do once you have established yourself as absolute all-powerful tyrant ruler” and on there is an item for “acquire hot wife” but just because… it’s what one does in that position??? He probably had a similar checklist item for “acquire heir” with the same motivation behind it, it’s THE THING YOU DO AS KING and it took him like four wives to get around to it.
and I mean yeah the implication of discarding a spouse because they’re “boring” is definitely supposed to be that the sex is no longer good or whatever but REALLY can you look me in the eye and say that with Thorn it wasn’t because he was like… expecting his wives to tell him an endless supply of jokes, but they eventually got stale or turned out to be better than his, I fucking GUARANTEE every single one of those women showed up to the royal boudoir in their diplomatically-selected bridal lingerie and wound up being ordered to do pratfalls and tell knock-knock jokes all night
also, speaking of jokes: this is a dude with TEN BILLION really terrible jokes for every occasion, and NOT A SINGLE ONE is even SLIGHTLY dirty???
