See allA lot of lead up for a pretty lack luster ending, so much of this was buildup so I was expecting a lot of the ending but it was over very quickly and without much of a bang. As always Murakami's wring style is brilliant, it's the plot that was lacking here for me.
I don't think I've ever read a book that I simultaneously loved and hated at the same time up until this one. I absolutely adored this book up until the end, I really disliked the ending, I understand the importance of being your own person and not needing to rely on someone you love and make your whole world about them but c'mon now they don't get to be together at all?? I get that Sean can visit crest out in the ocean but that's it?? It's just makes me sad that their love will eventually fade into nothing because all Sean can do is visit sometimes and they can never truly be together ever again
Wow wow wow, I am thoroughly impressed. Not only are these short stories frightening and engaging, Bazterrica's writing style sucks you in whether you want it to or not. I went into this having already read Tender is the Flesh, a book I enjoyed but felt was lacking in direction, and was expecting maybe the same quality, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much more I enjoyed this book. I feel like short stories are where Bazterrica really shines and is able to show us just how talented she really is. Each story was interesting, thought provoking, and some were genuinely “get under your skin” creepy, 4 stars!
