I thoroughly enjoyed learning about Brian and Metal Blade. It has made me want to do a deep dive on lots of bands and records I slept on back in the day.
I want to give this a better rating, as I've been a huge King's X fan since Gretchen was released, but the writing is not great. It was neat to learn about Doug's upbringing and the history of King's X though. For hardcore fans only (if you're reading this, that's probably you).
Required reading for any obsessive 10cc fan. This book is meticulously researched, and contains not only an incredible wealth of knowledge about the band, but the band members' other work as well.
I don't really follow Tesla. I was a fan back in the late 80s, their first two records. I picked this book up because I enjoy a good rock biog or memoir here and there. This is probably more a book for a hardcore Tesla fan, but it was a quick and easy read. He definitely wants you to know he's friends with Jimmy Page! Then again, I'd probably brag about that too.
I've been a Jellyfish fan since Bellybutton was released. I thought I knew a fair amount about their story, until I read this. If you're a fan, do yourself a favor and shell out the $ to find a copy of this. You won't regret it.
I agree with some of the other reviews I've read here. I appreciated the explanation of the threat of cheap and deep fakes, but it felt like the book was a little rushed. I noticed a handful of mistakes that could've used better editing as well.
Guitar, and to a lesser degree, sex, are the threads running through these short stories. I thoroughly enjoyed Andy's autobiography, so was curious to see what his fiction is like. This is a quick, entertaining read and many of the stories are quite funny.
I really wanted to like this more. More like a 2 or 2.5 but I'm feeling generous because hey it's Roland.
Could use better proofreading in spots, but a helluva fun read. It's amazing how many connections Tana has had through the years in the industry.
Thoroughly entertaining, I tore through this in a couple of sittings. I have more questions than answers now though! Gary needs to produce a McBee and Sylvia series.
As a fan of many of the artists Tom has worked with, as well as his production work, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I'm knocking off one star because the title could have been “Tear It Up! My Airing of Grievances” once you get to about the halfway mark.
Took me 100 pages or so to get into this (and to figure out that looking up the Thai words and slang was useful) but once I did, what a ride. Paolo doesn't beat you over the head with the concepts he's working with, he just focuses on the characters, which I appreciated.
As a BJJ practitioner, I was obviously interested in this because of who Tom is, but this was also just a great book about persistence and growth. I loved the format, how Tom tells his story through telling it to his father.
I'd give this 3.5 stars. I had no idea Ronnie was around, paying dues, long before Rainbow. It was neat to learn about the long road he had to the top. The book stops around 1986, right after the Sacred Heart tour, but given the givens and the fact that there won't be a part two, it's a solid ending.
“The sort of book yer never want to end!” - Dean Moss. I'd give this 4.5 if I could.
I was not familiar with Jarvis Jay Masters before reading this. What an incredible human being. This book is equally heartbreaking and inspiring.
The Wim Hof Method: Own Your Mind, Master Your Biology, and Activate Your Full Human Potential
I agree with some other reviews - WHM is fascinating, but this book not so much. Lots of anecdotes and he repeats himself endlessly. Could've been a large pamphlet and just as effective.
