"An original exploration of what it means to be seen and accepted." — Kirkus Following the events of the bestselling graphic novel, Sheets, Delicates brings Brenna Thummler’s beloved characters, artwork, and charm back to life. Marjorie Glatt’s life hasn’t been the same ever since she discovered a group of ghosts hiding in her family’s laundromat. Wendell, who died young and now must wander Earth as a ghost with nothing more than a sheet for a body, soon became one of Marjorie’s only friends. But when Marjorie finally gets accepted by the popular kids at school, she begins to worry that if anyone learns about her secret ghost friends, she’ll be labeled as a freak who sees dead people. With Marjorie’s insistence on keeping Wendell’s ghost identity a secret from her new friends, Wendell begins to feel even more invisible than he already is. Eliza Duncan feels invisible too. She’s an avid photographer, and her zealous interest in finding and photographing ghosts gets her labeled as “different” by all the other kids in school. Constantly feeling on the outside, Eliza begins to feel like a ghost herself. Marjorie must soon come to terms with the price she pays to be accepted by the popular kids. Is it worth losing her friend, Wendell? Is she partially to blame for the bullying Eliza endures? Delicates tells a powerful story about what it means to fit in, and those left on the outside. It shows what it’s like to feel invisible, and the importance of feeling seen. Above all, it is a story of asking for help when all seems dark, and bringing help and light to those who need it most.

This was my first experience reading a middle-level graphic novel, and I am just blown away! I flew through the 300+ pages in a heartbeat, I was completely sucked into the story and the art style. This novel did a fantastic job of wrapping the “delicacies” of life into a story of life, loss, and friendship. Too many children are affected by both suicide and loss, and I believe stories like this are a great way to inform children and parents alike about mental health and bullying issues, and to show them that they are not alone. I will definitely have this in my classroom library, and will promote it for students to read.
Thank you for this ARC, NetGalley and Oni Press! #Delicates #NetGalley
Great second volume. Although, I did like Sheets a tad bit more this installment is equally as good. Sheets was very light hearted but still tackled a heavy subject and I enjoyed the ghost world laws. In Delicates the plot and themes are much more serious as it deals with loneliness and suicidal thoughts.
Wendell is still the best. I can't wait to read volume three.
I received a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
“How is it that we're all people, we all feel the same basic emotions, but somehow we still can't understand each other?”
This is the second book in the series and while it wasn't as good as the first, I enjoyed it. I found it a bit more slow and because of Marjorie's actions I began to not like her. I glad that she came around though
Eliza is such an amazing character and I really resonated with her. I hope we get to see more of her in any upcoming books
Also the ending was so sweet. I'm giving it a 3.5 purely because it was such a slow beginning but the ending was so good
