I am aware that it was a necessary act at the time, but I wonder if thaumaturgy is more prone to misuse than Evocation? Judging from the nature of the rites used by your foes, is it a good question?
Evocation just isn’t something you can do on the fly without talent. People who screw around with magic are without knowing what they’re into are the people who use ritual magic, so yeah, thaumaturgy is often bastardized.
