The Western Gorilla is Critically Endangered after the Western Lowland Gorilla subspecies suffered a decline of more than 60%. Hunting & deaths caused by Ebola were the main causes of decline & continue to affect the population. The Western Lowland Gorilla makes up most of the Western Gorilla population. The other subspecies Cross River Gorilla was listed as Critically Endangered in 1996. With less than 200 mature adults remaining & ongoing habitat loss it is still Critically Endangered.
