219K views · 23K reactions | We’re not pulling our snap peas just yet, but we wanted to share this example of how you can succession plant a Freyr trellis throughout the growing season! In a few weeks, our peas will be done producing and we’ll take them out to make room for a new planting of climbing summer squash. Because the trellis is modular, you can even change its height, length, or orientation when switching out plants.

Of course, with the right crops you can succession plant on any vertical growing structure if your season is long enough, so Freyr trellis or not, keep on planting! Happy gardening 🌱♥️

17K views · 1.2K reactions | Last season I posted about why growing zucchini and squash vertically was a game changer and you guys loved it but I had lots of questions about how to start.
The best time is at the start. When transplanting your seedling it’s best to insert your stake first so you don’t damage the root system but if you forget like I did here just stick one in nice and close. Next using a soft tie, tie a figure right around the vine and stake to protect from rubbing and damage. Squash and zucchini grow super quick so you will need your tie it weekly, failing to do this can make it too top heavy causing the vine to snap.
I find this method helps drastically with powdery mildew as well as saving space in my garden from sprawling vines that can take up a lot of space. Most summer squash are bush types, but there are some, like the Incredible Escalator and Tromboncino, that vine. Vining summer squash and vining winter squash can be trained to grow vertically. This technique saves space and makes it easier to harvest. 🌱♥️
