The Canada lynx (Lynx canadensis) or Canadian lynx is a North American mammal of the cat family, Felidae. It is a close relative of the Eurasian Lynx (Lynx lynx). Its of course a captive one sadly, though it is the male of a regular breeding pair so they must feel settled to breed. There is talk of re introduction of lynx in to remote areas, and being a particular favourite of mine I would love to see that, but I fear its all hot air, it will never happen!!!! The fact that they were here and we wiped them out centuries ago means we could legally re introduce them, but as with so many species, the authorities take far more notice of the whinging…

The Canadian lynx is a true miracle of nature. Judge for yourself: this animal is twice as miniature as an ordinary lynx, while it has a huge amount of soft fluffy fur in which you want to drown. But the most remarkable feature of the Canadian lynx is its disproportionately massive and wide paws, which are so convenient to walk on deep snow. Well, just a winter fairy tale, not a pet!
