You will be working with many pathogenic species of bacteria in the laboratory. Remember that bacteria are in the air as well as on the skin, the counter, and all objects and equipment that have not been sterilized. The most important tool for transferring cultures is the wire inoculating needle or loop. It can be quickly sterilized by heating it to red hot in a Bunsen burner flame.

The Close-Up Photography Awards that celebrates and showcases close-up, macro, and microphotography, has just announced its winners and finalists. The overall Close-up Photographer of the Year award was won by a French photographer Galice Hoarau for his image of an eel larva, captured off the island of Lembeh, Indonesia. Other stunning winners include spiders, geckos, flowers, and other magnificent shots.
