22nd June and today's tiara is the Pearl Drop Kokoshnik that was part of the Russian Royal Jewels. It was made by Bolin in the 1840s and a much loved piece of the Czar's mother, Empress Marie Feodorovna. It was stolen by the Bolsheviks in 1917 when her palace was ransacked. This tiara was sold intact and ended up in the hands of the Duke of Roxborough and then Imelda Markos. Today the original is held at the Bank of the Philippines. The Russians made a replica which is on display at the Kremlin.
