Here are a few background fill designs from the Sketch Book... This has a flowing, organic look to it. I draw out random, wavy, vertical lines. Then I fill circle shapes between the lines. This design would look good in a quilt with a river on it. I like to do bubble or pebble quilting: Sometimes I fill the bubbles in with different shapes and lines. This is a great background filler motif: Sea Shells and Plumes This is the same design but with echo lines around them: I draw out several sea shell designs then echo around them 3 or more times before I go on to drawing more sea shells. It is a subtle change to the first design, but the echo lines help the sea shell motif stand out on its own.
