Rook Intro Hour: Book Club
Happy Friday! I hope everyone is having a fun Veilguard Appreciation Week!
How it works: I ask you a question about your Rook(s) and you answer it with as much brevity or verbosity as you desire. You can do this whenever you want, and I’ll reblog it + add some comments! There’s no time limit— if you want to do the older ones, they are collected here! (The post is updated on Fridays!)
Today’s Questions: If your Rook joined book club (either voluntarily, or because someone bribed them lol) would they think of the books the others picked? [check the entries!] What would Rook suggest? How much would they participate in the discussion? What (if anything) would they enjoy most about it? Arguing? Gossiping about the characters?
Be creative, and have fun! Thanks for sharing!
Jin Laidir doesn’t really read, and declined the invitation to book club - they don’t have the patience for it, and prefer their stories to be spoken; get them in a tavern with some of the Lords of Fortune and they’ll spend hours one-upping each other with extremely exaggerated stories. So they’ll probably read a couple chapters, get bored, maybe skip around in the middle and then have no idea what anyone at book club is talking about. But then they discover that they enjoy being read to, and that Lucanis can be very easily cajoled into reading for them while they work on knitting or embroidery (they would love podcasts). They would not be able to guess any of the twist endings, and they would favor more action-oriented stories like Harding, the sort of things the Lords would brag about in a tavern. Not a fan of romance; Jin is on the aromantic spectrum and sort of starts to get it when they meet Lucanis but not really, and has a sort of lightbulb moment when discussing whether or not the romance in the books is realistic or not.
If they had to pick something they would probably choose something like a collection of Rivaini pirate stories. And then they wouldn’t even finish it.
Laertes Mercar is more of a nonfiction reader but is still kind of bummed no one invited them to book club. Just because they’re a big tough warrior type doesn’t mean they’re not also a huge nerd! They find the book club notes and try to casually ask Bellara if they can borrow one of the books sometime, and of course she feels horrible that Rook was left out and immediately lets Rook borrow all of them, plus her copy of the next book, which is definitely some kind of romance that Lucanis picked out. Laertes likes it, though I imagine the club is rather polarized; Laertes prefers it to Hallowed Halls because while they enjoy some romance, they don’t like the enemies to lovers trope - sometimes people are just assholes and there’s nothing sexy about it. Is sometimes annoying because they will nitpick on historical or scientific accuracy.
Laertes would worry too much about picking a book that everyone likes until Bellara reminds them that their pick just has to be something that they like, and they finally go with the 500 year old diary of an ordinary woman that has a lot of details about how people lived in olden times. It is surprisingly well received by the rest of the club.
lol, love Jin not finishing their own book, very iconic of them <3 Maybe the enthusiastic readers can take turns reading to them?
And that’s such a fun/unique pick from Laertes! I would def want to read!

Osteanna is happy to join book club but is also half dragged by Lucanis and Emmrich. Lucanis loves having her around and Emmrich needs another undead expert to help his arguments. She definitely has a good time. She probably picks an adventure novel.
Arrin gets dragged into book club by Emmrich. He’s excused after his first book pick. He definitely picks some horror book in an effort to make people squirm. I don’t think it works but they let him bow out anyway.
Vitas loves book club he drags Taash along and has fun finding books they’ll like
I’m glad she has fun! And that Emmrich has some back up lol
Lmaaao no, I don’t think most of the VG book club would mind horror
And I’m glad he has so much fun!

Thinking about the Darkspawn ‘song’ as a corruption of Isatunoll, The Eternal Hymn
“I am. We are. Whole, again. Here, again.”
When the warden confronts the Mother at the end of Awakening, she says she wants to hear the song, again; the red Lyrium dagger sings to Bartrand and Varric, and to Meredith, a Templar— who drinks the blood of Titans
Thinking about the Primeval Thaig, one of the only places with Rock Wraiths/the profane, who ‘feasted upon the gods’ (the Evanuris? The Titans? Something older?). Are they there to guard the dagger, or are they created/enticed by its presence ?
people are witnessing the naked face of the great beast Leviathan lately and they’re just not loving the horrific visage
AHHHH HELLO! Very new here, but I do bring gifts!
Enjoy this meme art I made of my Rook, Lucanis and Neve. Ill be posting a LOT of other Dragon Age stuff so be sure to stick around ✨

Every time someone new enters the DA fandom with VG content I am holding out treats and making pssspsss noises… come over here to the fun corner, where we actually have fun lol

the worst part of fic writing is when you genuinely cannot tell if a part of your fic sucks or if you’ve just read it a collective total of twenty times so it basically doesn’t even look like english anymore
rookanis really is like… first base is you walking through the haunted ruins of my mind to find me in an act of breathtaking psychological intimacy with added tam lin undertones. second base is baked goods (cautious erotic connotations). third base is deicide. THEN we kiss. also second deicide of course once you pop it’s hard to stop
Do NOT give in to despair. Yes, the response isn’t always perfect. But the perfect is the enemy of the good.
