The definition of a blinkie is “a small animated graphic for use on a web page, usually taking the form of a picture or phrase with blinking lights around it.”

They were very popular on old websites such as MySpace, Geocities, and other blogging sites around the 90s and early 2000. They’ve recently made a huge comback with the rise of webcore and the early internet aesthetic!

As for where they’re used, this is the fun part: you can use these almost anywhere! If you can embed an image, you can embed a blinkie (or several) to decorate your profile. Most popularly they’re used on carrd, Neocities, and SpaceHey; Neocities being the new Geocities, and SpaceHey being the new MySpace.

What blinkies you choose to display is totally up to you. There are TONS out there to choose from, both old and new! I often make blinkies dedicated to gender and disability, so for example, someone with Marfan Syndrome might find my Marfan blinkie and use it on their profile to take pride in their disability.

  • “ Can I use your blinkies on my blog / website / etc.? ”

Of course!

You can use them with or without credit, I don’t mind at all! The only thing I’d ever like credit for is if they’re directly reposted to tumblr or deviantart as uploads that other people can reblog or favorite, which has happened several times now surprisingly? (Deviantart especially considering that’s the place I post every single one of my blinkies already lol.)

But to use on pages like carrd, pinned about posts, neocities, or spacehey; that’s exactly what I’m making these for, no worries at all!

  • “ Who are you? ”

I’m Soleil. You can also call me Hazard or Flagellant. I heavily prefer you use it/its only for me.

If it’s important for you to know, I’m a white Scandiavian. I am mid-support needs autistic, and I am disabled by hEDS, severe breathing difficulties, CFS/ME, and so on. I am mentally ill, including AvPD and OCD among other things. My real-life family as well as my friends are all primarily disabled people, and I often make blinkies with them in mind. <3

I am comfortable sharing this information about myself, especially so considering the content I make. This isn’t the full list, I don’t want to bare my whole ass here lol.

I block people who I don’t want to interact with me, as simple as that.

“proship”, pedo/zoo, a transmed, you police the pronouns of others (such as being anti-it/its or anti-neopronouns), you are pro-ana, you factkin or ship real people, you call other people slurs without their consent, use the R slur in any capacity, you’re a “radqueer”, irl gore bloggers, you’re pro-capitalism, anti-recovery, you’re a centrist, pro cop… a lot of stuff like that.

If none of these apply to you and you find yourself blocked, don’t worry; I enjoy curating my space online and I probably just saw something that annoyed me or a take I strongly disagreed with. No hard feelings!

  • “ Do you have a main blog? ”

I do, but I don’t post much on it aside from reblogs. If you’re looking for my art, then my blog is linked in my sidebar!

  • “ Why didn’t you answer my ask about XYZ? ”

I want this blog to be focused around blinkies and blinkies only. If you’re trying to argue with me about something, just block and move on. I’m just some guy who sits on my ass and makes little moving pictures, so seek out another creator.

  • “ I sent you a request XYZ weeeks/months ago, did it get rejected? ”

Most likely not! I just get burnt out sometimes and I have to take a break from making blinkies or doing requests. Physical disability makes activity from me pretty unpredictable, my apologies!
