Dwarf Fothergilla (Fothergilla gardenii) is a slow growing ornamental shrub that is native to the Southeastern United States. This mound forming shrub grows as tall as it does wide. Fragrant white or yellow flowers grow in spring. Leaves are green in the summer, but give way to bright fall colors come autumn. Dwarf Fothergilla prefer well drained soils with medium moisture in full sun to part shade. The soils should be somewhat aerated or sandy as these shrubs do not thrive in heavy or clay…

Slow-growing, Fothergilla gardenii (Dwarf Fothergilla) is a magnificent deciduous shrub that adds long-lasting beauty to the landscape during 3 seasons. In spring, this compact, mounded shrub gets beautifully covered with honey-scented, upright, creamy-white bottlebrush-like flowers, 1-2 in. long (2-5 cm), before the leaves emerge. In summer, the foliage of oval leaves is an attractive dark blue-green, creating a striking contrast with the other plants.

This cultivar of a favorite fall shrub has the same great spring flowers as the rest of the species.

Wonderful compact shrub with multiple seasons of interest. In spring, the dwarf witch alder is covered with scented, bottlebrush-like white flowers, in summer it sports handsome blue-tinted foliage, and in fall it delights with an amazing show of color.
