The easiest way to collect zinnia seeds is to let the seed pods dry on the plant. Once they turn brown you can cut and collect.

We noticed last season that many of ours would rot from the heavy dew that begins in August and of course the fall rain. For those reasons, we collect our flower heads once they’ve aged and have seeds formed before they’re fully dry.

HOW TO:

✿ Look for flowers that are be ‘aged’. These often have darker petals.

✿ Gently pull back the bottom row of petals to look for viable seed. Viable seeds will be dark green/grey and plump.

✿ If ripe seed is inside, cut off the bloom and separate the viable seeds.

How magical is it that one $6 packet of seeds can turn into 5 or 10 or even more by Farmer Florist, Fall Rain, Zinnia Seeds, Seed Pods, Green Grey, Cut Off, The Fall, Farmer, Florist
