The aim of this exercise was to develop an understanding of form sensitivity in design through progressive metamorphosis from a natural element to an existing product design. This exercise was done by hand in 2D drawings and 3D modelling.

This project explores form analogies and spirit. Drawing connections between products to an animal, a vegetable and to another product.

E. E. McCollum’s “Cocoon” series takes its name from the mesh body cocoon in which he shrouds his subjects. Originally drawn to the sculptural quality the stretched fabric creates, he then became interested in the transformation of the figure. The body remains visible inside the fabric – limbs, torso, face, hands all recognizable inside the space of the cocoon yet changed, verging toward anonymity and unfamiliarity.
