In all my years teaching in a self contained special education classroom, the reading curriculum offered was either a fluency program or A-Z reading levels. Both are great to help children learn HOW to read the words, but what about the comprehension skills that go along with reading fluently? There's a yearly reading comprehension bundle, monthly units, or grab a Characters & Settings freebie when you join my mailing list! Teacher resources for ELA for the special needs classroom. Throughout the time I was teaching, I continually added and changed how language arts and reading instruction in my classroom looked, and it's been a successful change!
