If you are too shy to ask for the things you want, you will not receive them. "Bairn" and "nowt" are Northern English dialect words for "child" and "nothing," respectively. Primarily heard in UK. Well, you'll definitely never get a raise if you don't ask for one! Remember, shy bairns get nowt.
