When it comes to diastasis, we're dealing with your linea alba (the vertical midline of connective tissue between your 6-pack muscle), which has become stretched out from the growing baby.   Think of your linea alba like silly putty that has been pulled apart. It's kind of all over the place, so during rehab exercise it helps us to "anchor" down so we more easily generate tension in our tissue.   We can do this by bringing our arms overhead and pressing into a chair or wall during core exercises. You can also do this by holding a dumbbell or band overhead.
