Fan quilts

I've recently finished quilting a c.1930s Grandmother's Fan quilt top I found antiquing! Many of the fabrics were likely taken from cloth sacks that held a variety of staple goods, from sugar to flour to animal feed. I wish I would have taken a picture of a certain quilt block before machine quilting it in continuous curves and feathers, because on the muslin fabric background you could barely read “Great West…Denver, Co…Table & Pr…”. This pattern is called Grandmother's Fan, and this quilt was passed down to me from the other side of my family, my father's side. This was pieced and quilted by his maternal grandmother, and it's been astonishingly well preserved. I think my grandmother, her daughter, kept it tucked away and never used it.

The fans are sewn together but now what to do for borders? I'm thinking maybe a small [1.5"] solid blue stop border then the off white muslin outer border, that will allow me to feather it nicely. I haven't enough of the off white Kona muslin on hand so I need another yard, might go look for that after I get through at the gym tomorrow. I recently finished quilting this lovely customer quilt. It was made by a lovely lady called Nessie who is 87 years young. Made up of Grandmother's fan blocks it was a lot of fun to quilt!
