Hive Tyrants (gothic: Tyranicus praefactor) are a strain of Tyranid which function as the closest thing to battlefield commanders and swarm coordinators that the Hive Mind has at its disposal. Displaying the six-limbed body configuration typical of Tyranids, Hive Tyrants are bipedal monstrosities which stand nearly twenty feet tall. They are covered in a tough, chitinous carapace which makes them very difficult to harm, let alone destroy, and their upper two pairs of limbs can be equipped…

A Hive Tyrant is the massive Tyranid bioform that serves as the main battlefield commander of a Tyranid swarm, a synapse creature that stands above the rank and file. They wield potent psychic powers but are unaffected by the daemons of the Warp, a condition that would indicate a lack of a soul at the individual level for most Tyranids, though the species' collective consciousness brings into being a truly potent psychic presence.
