A couple of weeks ago I had progressed my collage using the momigami paper samples to the point where I was ready to stick it down using thinned wallpaper paste on a plastic sheet. After adding some more purple serviette pieces, this was where I had got to. I followed Cas Holmes' advice in her book, The Found Object in Textile Art, and scraped away some of the paper layers with a blade to reveal the ones underneath. You can use konnyaku starch (Amazon} if you want your paper to be crisp but for a softer texture use a natural oil like olive or coconut. This method really does turn paper into a fabric like texture. I used light weight scrapbook paper and some magazine pictures with olive oil. I was recently introduced to Momigami by my friend @dsmillerstudio56 who showed me an exquisite piece of paper that she had rusted and then "momigamied" (not sure if that's an actual word, but I'm going with it). The result was a piece of paper that no longer felt like paper... It now felt like a buttery soft piece of chamois cloth that had a beautiful crinkled and aged appearance.
