In 1946 a huge flood damaged the lower refreshment rooms. José Paronella died of cancer in 1948. His wife and son continued on with the Paronella Park dream until Margarita died in 1967 and son Joe died in 1972. The park became too much for the remaining family to manage and Paronella Park was closed, eventually being sold in 1977. Disaster struck again.
