Self-abandonment is a destructive (and sadly common) habit that includes ignoring our own needs and emotions, and hiding parts of ourself to get approval of others. When we abandon ourselves, we often do so because we are afraid of others will not accept us as we are. Many of us experience this ongoing, and it can honestly very damaging to our precious energy. Chronic self-abandonment is a HUGE thing I see in the HSP community and you may not even realize you’re doing it!

You’re hyper-fixated on OTHER people — how they’re responding to you, their energy & mood — making yourself responsible for controlling THEIR reactions.

So, you abandon yourself in an attempt to make THEM happier, to ultimately make yourself feel more comfortable. 😮‍💨

For example, you set a boundary with your sister, letting her know you can’t chat on the phone every single night because it’s taking you away from quality time with your kids.
