I am the main provider of two loved ones/roommates that are both disabled, one with cancer, and the other still recovering from mono. I have missed a ton of work making sure they're getting to appointments and being advocated for in the hospital. I myself am not doing well, I am going through a lupus flare and struggling badly with my mental health.
We are behind on bills, our wifi got turned off for a bit last month, putting me out of work for longer than I otherwise would've been. The only reason we are housed now is bc a very supportive friend made sure we were able to pay rent. We don't have enough for food, bills, or medical stuff rn. We live in the south and truly need to be getting a name change and other legal stuff done too just for saftey reasons, but when we can't afford the day-to-day that is hilariously out of reach.

In regards to the goal here- right now we urgently need about $1k to get the broken washer, past due bills, and food taken care of. The goal on the gfm above has a $50k goal because my roommate has to do chemo, and maybe more surgery + definitely more scans. Chemo keeps getting delayed because tests keep coming back with results that confuse the doctors. That in itself has been stressful.

Once you start thinking about humans as a species in a biome, it affects your entire way of looking at normal things.
The other day I referred to female morning joggers as an 'indicator species' in that if you see women jogging in the dark it means that the environment provides migration pathways (sidewalks, clear signs) and doesn't have any known predators of female morning joggers (guy with knife, bear, BigTruck, male morning joggers).
Though, I think that people consider framing humans as animals reacting to their environment as rude.

Problem? It was never a problem, unless you had unrealistic expectations for what it meant. It was a symptom, and a good one. — Be strategic and think about this deeper for a minute.
It was absolutely performative fair-weather allyship. But it was a bellwether that the pink dollar was worth taking over any hypothetical backlash a business might face for supporting the queers. For some, and at some times in the past, it was a reassurance that they would do business with you even if they knew you were gay, and that was a huge issue if you eg. wanted to buy a house or a car. And it helped make queerness both more visible and more normalised in society, instead of trying to sweep teh gays back into the closet.
You’re not going to get rid of cynical cash grabs so long as capitalism is around, so you might as well be clear-eyed about it and recognise that while rainbow merch is totally unreliable for actual support, it was a sign that the smart money was betting in your favour.
You can always trust a business to find a sort of middle space that's vaguely agreeable to most of its customers and sit there avoiding all controversy in the absolute most craven and soulless way possible.
