Let’s answer this question first: Do you need to supplement with whey protein in order to reach your muscle building targets?

Absolutely not.

If you are able to get an adequate amount of muscle building protein in your diet by eating whole foods, that is wonderful. For many of us, if the target is to increase lean muscle tissue, then it means we are aiming for 1.6 to 2.2 g of protein per kilogram of bodyweight, or 0.8 to 1.0 g of protein per pound of bodyweight.

That can be a challenge to get in! For me, it means I’m aiming for 100 g of protein per day. Adding some protein powder to my Greek yogurt, or having a midday snack like this caramel apple protein shake, helps me to do that!
