On page 171, Hamlet says “ How now? A rat? Dead for a ducat, dead.” Hamlet says this right after he has murdered Polonius. Hamlet thinks of Polonius as a rat throughout the book. When Hamlet mistakes Polonius for the King behind the curtain and stabs him, Polonius was sent to hide there and spy on Hamlet by the King.
