What does work, though, is rubbing alcohol. It's also known as isopropyl alcohol or ispropanol.  No, this isn't the kind you drink.   Rubbing alcohol dissolves polymer clay, alcohol inks, paint, varnish (even dried varnish), liquid clay, and even uncured resin. It's an excellent solvent and it works VERY well as an all-purpose cleaning agent for your polymer clay tools and work surface.  It also works wonders for smoothing fingerprints or removing lint from your UNBAKED polymer clay creations.  Alcohol won't ruin your manicure or dissolve your tools. (Always use the least aggressive solvent for your needs!!) I love shaping clay pieces by hand and don’t really like to use gloves (am I the only one that gets sweaty hands when working with gloves on?). So here’s the perfect solution: corn starch.  When I finish my pieces I always smooth them with corn starch to remove finger prints and imperfections.  It’s also a great way to smooth edges so you don’t have to sand the pieces after baking.
