An increasing body of knowledge has attested to the significance of assessment activities in promoting SRL strategies. However, the influence of assessment practices on SRL in higher education is considered a neglected research area. Aimed to fill this gap, this paper presents a systematic review of six peer-reviewed articles focusing on the effective employment of assessment strategies to promote SRL. Five key features of the compelling interplay between assessment activities and SRL strategies were noted in the review: feedback-driven, discussion focused, specific assessment designs that provide continuous SRL opportunities, and learning contexts that influence motivation and purpose, with educators’ assessment competency as a pre-requisite for successful implementation.

This study investigated these relationships among typically developing children using general achievement measures (academic scores and grades). Our participants were 270 typically developing primary school students (142 boys and 128 girls) of different nationalities living in Malaysia, recruited with purposive sampling with a mean age of 9.75 years. We found that both attention and impulse control significantly predicted academic achievement. Girls had a higher level of attention and impulse control than boys, but gender was not a significant moderator between either attention or impulse control and academic achievement. We discuss the implications of these findings and the need for further research.

Institutions worldwide have had attention to the integration of sustainability into the curricula, and on the conceptual level problem based learning (PBL) has been put forward as a promising pedagogical model and emerged as an opportunity to implement sustainability successfully. Due to the almost forty years of experience in PBL, a case study was carried out at Aalborg University, Denmark to excerpt their experience of integrating sustainability in a problem based learning environment. Three electronics engineering project modules were selected as example and empirically supported by constructed interviews with staff and document analysis of selected material. The findings were analysed with a systems approach and presented with reference to three difference factors: input, throughput and output factors; whereas reflections on the study is presented in the final part. It is found that the PBL practices in the modules comprehend the integration of sustainability in engineering education without compensating technical and engineering competencies as the core contents.
