and negotiate conflict. Emotional intelligence is considered as one of the important aspects in one’s life. In fact, it is believed
that a person’s Emotional Quotient (EQ) may be more important than their Intelligence Quotient (IQ) and is certainly a better
predictor of success, quality of relationships, and overall happiness. Emotional intelligence is also important in maintaining
one’s physical health, mental wellbeing and good leadership. Therefore, the researcher has selected the present study. The
objectives of the present study are to find out the levels of Emotional Intelligence of Higher Secondary School students of
Sivasagar district of Assam and to compare the levels of Emotional Intelligence of (i) boys and girls students, (ii) the students
of the Arts& Science streams and (iii) rural and urban higher secondary school students. The researchers selected a sample
of 840 Higher Secondary school students from the Educational Institutions of Sivasagar district of Assam. For the present
study Mangal Emotional Intelligence Inventory (MEII) developed and standardized by Dr.S.K.Mangal and Mrs Shubhra Mangal
was selected and it was adapted by the researchers. It is found from the present study that the distribution of Emotional
Intelligence scores of Higher Secondary school students of Sivasagar district of Assam is negatively skewed. There is no
significant difference between mean MEII scores of boys and girls higher secondary school students. There is a significant
difference between the Higher Secondary School students studying in Arts and Science stream as far as their Emotional
Intelligence is concerned. There is no significant difference between the mean MEII scores of rural and urban Higher
Secondary School students.

build up due to a variety of reasons, such as-Peer pressure,
expectations from friends, family and in general society, self-evaluation,
comparison with own past performance, comparison with others etc.
Academic stress becomes a source of immediate concern in today’s
world. Solutions and suggestions to minimize this problem has become
an urgent need so as to maintain the physical, mental and emotional
well-being of students so that they can achieve to their optimum
standard and contribute to the success and development of themselves
as well as the country. The study that has been conducted is of great
significance as it investigated the causes, perception, the problems,
and the influences of academic stress on physical and mental health of
the post graduate students of Cotton University. As Cotton University is
one of the best universities of Assam in particular and India in general,
a study on the causes and the impact of academic stress on physical
and mental health of the post graduate students of Cotton University is
undoubtedly a matter of concern. Descriptive research method was
used for the present study to find out the reasons of Academic stress as
well as its impact on physical and mental health of the post graduate
students. Some reasons are found pertaining to covid-19 situation,
getting jobs in future, high expectations from parents and getting good
grades etc.
