One of the most important issues in re-use is the right balance between conservation and functional change, ensuring the continuity of the cultural value and originality of the building. In line with this perspective, this paper aims to determine the cultural perception performance in a re-functioned historical building to determine how the user perceives the authenticity and historical values. Geçmişten gelen kültürel değerlerin gelecek kuşaklara aktarılabilmesi adına, kültürel mirasın güv... more Geçmişten gelen kültürel değerlerin gelecek kuşaklara aktarılabilmesi adına, kültürel mirasın güvence altına alınması olarak tanımlanan korumanın en büyük gerekçelerinden biri; tarihsel ve kültürel değerler olarak nitelendirdiğimiz anıtsal yapıların taşıdığı, özellikle özgünlük, belgesel, kimlik, tarihsel, mimari, kullanım ve süreklilik değerlerinin yitirilmemesinin sağlanmasıdır. Korumanın aktif olarak gerçekleştirilebilmesi için; kültürel miras olarak ele aldığımız anıtsal yapılara işlevsel bir içerik kazandırmak; onları toplum kullanımına sunup yararlanmak ve insan-yapı bütünleşmesini sağlanmak gerekmektedir. Ancak buradaki en önemli konu, koruma ile işlevsel değişim arasında doğru bir denge kurulması ve yapının özgünlük değerlerinin yitirilmemesi olmalıdır. Bu sebeple anıtsal bir yapının yeniden kullanıma adaptasyon sürecinde en önemli nokta, yapının kültürel değerinin ve özgünlüğünün korunmasıdır. Bu bağlamda anıtsal yapılarda "kültürel algı performansı" olarak adlandırdığımız performans değeri; yapının yeniden kullanımında, anıt özelliğinin, özgünlüğünün, simgesel, tarihi ve kültürel değerinin kullanıcı tarafından nasıl algılandığını ölçmemizi sağlayacaktır. İç Anadolu Bölgesi, Sivas il merkezinde yer alan, Anadolu Selçuklu Dönemine ait, açık avlulu ve tek katlı Sivas Buruciye Medresesi çalışma kapsamında incelenmiştir. Bugün "El Sanatları Çarşısı ve Çay Bahçesi" olarak kullanılan Buruciye Medresesinin kültürel algı performansı değerlendirmeleri yapılarak, yapının içerisinde bulunduğu fiziksel çevre ile birlikte özgünlük değerlerinin kullanıcılar tarafından algılanıp algılanmadığı belirlenmiştir.

Iconic buildings, which stand out among the architectural elements that are part of the city iden... more Iconic buildings, which stand out among the architectural elements that are part of the city identity, expressing the uniqueness and character of cities, are the buildings that integrate with cities, come to mind first when defining them, and carry symbolic value. These buildings can be historical and cultural heritage buildings constructed centuries ago, or they can be buildings constructed according to the functions, technologies and architectural styles that emerged, developed and changed with the 20th century. Architectural project competitions organized open to national and international competitors have become a frequently preferred method in constructing these buildings. Within the scope of the study, the iconic buildings built as a result of architectural project competitions, which emerged as a local dynamic in Turkey's 20th century architecture, are analyzed. From among the competition projects built between 1930 and 2000, with a subjective perspective, the most well-known buildings that have gained a place in the city memory, as an architectural icon in defining the city, have been selected and analyzed in terms of their architectural characteristics and the symbolic values they add to the city. In addition to the fact that these buildings were designed by a well-known architect, their architectural characteristics, functions, social, political and symbolic values they carry and their location in the city have turned them into iconic buildings for the city.

Çalışma kapsamında Kemal Sunal’ın yaşamı boyunca rol aldığı 82 filminden 1970-1990 aralığında çek... more Çalışma kapsamında Kemal Sunal’ın yaşamı boyunca rol aldığı 82 filminden 1970-1990 aralığında çekilen Şaşkın Damat (1975), Yüz Numaralı Adam (1978), Sosyete Şaban (1985), Katma Değer Şaban (1985), Yakışıklı (1987) ve Sevimli Hırsız (1988) filmleri ele alınmıştır. Seçilen filmlerde dönemin konutunu yansıtan sahnelere yer verilmiş olmasına ve mekânları analiz etmeye yetecek açıların bulunmasına dikkat edilmiştir. Bu sahnelerde geleneksel, klasik ve modern iç mekânların tercihlerindeki sosyolojik, ekonomik ve kültürel boyutlar incelenmiş, mekânlar donatı ve mobilyalar üzerinden analiz edilmiştir.

Conservation of Modern Architectural heritage in Turkey became an agenda topic upon the establishment of DOCOMOMO Turkey Working Group in 2002. Within the scope of the protection and documentation of the Modern Architectural Heritage, the Community Center building located in the city center of Konya, built between 1946-1949 and used as the Konya State Theater today, was examined. With the literature review, the values used for the Modern Architectural Heritage in national or international documents have been determined. The examined building was handled within the scope of these values and it was concluded that it should be considered within the scope of Modern Architectural Heritage with its document, integrity, technological, aesthetic, urban memory, momentary and reference values.

Several definitions of sustainable development have been put forth, including the following common one: development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Sustainability relies on high efficiency and the uninterrupted function of a continuing social, economic and ecological system in such a way that does not degrade and consume the resources used. Sustainable architecture is explained as a long term thought and action philosophy including the processes of building programming, usage, management throughout its economic life, destruction of the building or reuse. "The characteristics of sustainable design are its ability to integrate the life cycles of building systems with ecological systems in biosphere. The aim of this study is to reveal what design inputs can be driven in hospital buildings that differ in terms of design, application process and human environment relationships in use. When the continuously dense usage situations of hospitals are considered, the concept of "green hospital" is used to define the hospitals fulfilling at least one of the alternatives such as choosing environmental settlement design, buying nature friendly building materials and products, being environmentally sensitive during the construction of the hospital building and keeping this sensitivity going in service production process. Green hospital defines a facility which recycles, reuses the materials, reducing wastes and giving more clean air to the environment. This approach based on an environmentalist management understanding is seen under the headlines like management of waste and hazardous materials, water management, energy management and air emission regulating system and innovator environmental designs.

The aim of the research is to contribute to the verification of effectiveness of the rehabilitation programme ‘Increasing visual performance in reading’. Evaluation of research data brings findings of verification of effectiveness of the adaptation of external conditions, which was used during the program. Measurable data are compared to the level of impact of the first part of the programme environmental adaptation and modification of conditions for reading to improve rehabilitation programme effectiveness. Based on the research results in the category of reading rate, environmental adaptation represented 42.8 % of overall increase in performance. The health institutions in different areas in Ottoman period were replaced by ‘Gureba hospitals’ in 19th century. The change in Anatolia was realised, after the declaration of the Republic and with the development of its economy, and lived in every area; hospital buildings were constructed first as ‘Gureba hospitals’ then as ‘country hospitals’ in Anatolia cities like Konya after the big cities like İstanbul, Ankara and İzmir. In this study, the change and development of the hospital architecture in Konya are discussed and the change from ‘Gureba hospital’ of early 20th century to the today’s stateaffiliated comprehensive research hospitals is illustrated. Several definitions of sustainable development have been put forth, including the following common one: development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Sustainability relies on high efficiency and the uninterrupted function of a continuing social, economic and ecological system in such a way that does not degrade and consume the resources used. Sustainable architecture is explained as a long term thought and action philosophy including the processes of building programming, usage, management throughout its economic life, destruction of the building or reuse. "The characteristics of sustainable design are its ability to integrate the life cycles of building systems with ecological systems in biosphere. The aim of this study is to reveal what design inputs can be driven in hospital buildings that differ in terms of design, application process and human environment relationships in use. When the continuously dense usage situations of hospitals are considered, the concept of "green hospital" is used to define the hospitals fulfilling at least one of the alternatives such as choosing environmental settlement design, buying nature friendly building materials and products, being environmentally sensitive during the construction of the hospital building and keeping this sensitivity going in service production process. Green hospital defines a facility which recycles, reuses the materials, reducing wastes and giving more clean air to the environment. This approach based on an environmentalist management understanding is seen under the headlines like management of waste and hazardous materials, water management, energy management and air emission regulating system and innovator environmental designs.

The aim of the research is to contribute to the verification of effectiveness of the rehabilitation programme ‘Increasing visual performance in reading’. Evaluation of research data brings findings of verification of effectiveness of the adaptation of external conditions, which was used during the program. Measurable data are compared to the level of impact of the first part of the programme environmental adaptation and modification of conditions for reading to improve rehabilitation programme effectiveness. Based on the research results in the category of reading rate, environmental adaptation represented 42.8 % of overall increase in performance. The health institutions in different areas in Ottoman period were replaced by ‘Gureba hospitals’ in 19th century. The change in Anatolia was realised, after the declaration of the Republic and with the development of its economy, and lived in every area; hospital buildings were constructed first as ‘Gureba hospitals’ then as ‘country hospitals’ in Anatolia cities like Konya after the big cities like İstanbul, Ankara and İzmir. In this study, the change and development of the hospital architecture in Konya are discussed and the change from ‘Gureba hospital’ of early 20th century to the today’s stateaffiliated comprehensive research hospitals is illustrated. Mimarlık ve sinema, mekân, eylem ve zaman üzerine düşünen ve üreten iki disiplin olarak birbiriyl... more Mimarlık ve sinema, mekân, eylem ve zaman üzerine düşünen ve üreten iki disiplin olarak birbiriyle etkileşim içinde olmuş ve beyaz perdeye yansıyan ilk filmden bu yana birbirlerine sürekli yeni olanaklar, olası yeni görme biçimleri sunmuştur. Bu nedenledir ki mimarlık ve sinema arasındaki ortak doğurgan ilişki mekânın kavranmasından, kurgulanmasına, üretiminden sunumuna kadar çeşitlenen pek çok araştırmaya konu edilmiştir. Son yıllarda mimarlık tarihi alanı da sinema filmleriyle daha fazla ilgilenmekte ve sinema filmlerini “bir mimarlık tarihi belgeleme aracı” olarak görmeye çalışmaktadır. Özellikle İkinci Dünya Savaşı’ndan sonra ortaya çıkan “gerçekçi” sinema akımlarının etkisiyle yönetmenlerin, aktörlerin ve kameraların stüdyo ve set ortamından sokağa taşınmasının ardından doğal kurgular, doğaçlama diyaloglar ve en önemlisi gerçek mekân çekimleriyle daha sahici ve samimi bir sinema dili yaratılmıştır. Geriye dönüp baktığımızda bu film sahnelerinin arka fonlarında yer alan kentsel alanlar, mahalleler, mimari yapılar ve iç mekânlar kaybettiğimiz ya da daha iyi anlamaya çalıştığımız modern mimarlığın tasarım kültürüne ilişkin önemli bilgiler sunmaktadır. Türk filmlerinin Türkiye bağlamında modern mimarlığın belgelenmesinde ve yorumlanmasındaki bu kurucu rolünün fark edildiği noktadan başlayarak, beş yıl boyunca seyredilen yüzlerce Türk filmi üzerinden, kolektif bir çalışmayla değişik ölçek ve işlevde pek çok modern mimarlık mirasına ilişkin görsel bir arşiv oluşturuldu. Bu kitapta arşiv malzemesinin bir kısmı kullanılarak yazılan yazıları toplamaktan mutluluk duyuyoruz. Umut Şumnu
