Ehya Amalsaleh (PhD) is an associate professor of TEFL at English Department, Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. She has already published a number of ESP textbooks for Iranian students. Her research interest lies in analyzing texts within Critical Discourse Analysis as well as methods of teaching writing. She has translated and published three books into the Persian language ( "When breath Becomes Air", "The Dalai Lama's Cat", and "Orientalism Versus Occidentalism. Literary and Cultural Imaging Between France and Iran Since the Islamic Revolution".

(SLA) researchers is whether and how to include grammar in second language (L

classrooms. This study tried to investigate how the form-focused instruction affects lower-intermediate EFL Iranian learners’ grammar learning. Based on an experimental data
collection and analysis, the study followed the pre-test and post-test design performed on
45 female participants at the pre-intermediate level. The pre-test was administered at the
beginning of the course; then, the researcher divided the participants into two groups:
experimental (FFI) and control group (traditional method). The researcher also used an
observation checklist to ascertain if the teacher used the related items in classes.
Afterwards, the researcher provided the frequency of observation of teachers’ operations
which showed differences between the FFI and the traditional instruction. After observing
the teaching sessions, the researchers administered the same test as a post-test to both
groups. . The data were analyzed using independent t-test and paired t-test.

taken a descriptive approach and has studied Persian proper names to find out what grammatical categories

Used to It), written by Zoya Pirzad. The main character of the story is a middle-aged woman
from a middle class family who is living with her daughter as well as her mother. The novel
depicts the obstacles the woman faces communicating with as well as being understood by
her daughter and mother.Following Hodge and Kress' (1993), the present study is carried out
within the Critical Discourse framework to analyze the text. The book contains 31 chapters,
out of which the first16 chapters were selected. The texts were analyzed with regard to the
following properties: grammar (regarding two properties: syntagmatic models and
transformations), and vocabulary (i.e., adjectives, adverbs, and verbs, with their ideological
significance) The study is an attempt to depict linguistically the identity, wishes and
outlooks of three women belonging to three generations, their similarities as well as
differences.
