Les « Printemps arabes » ont reposé avec force la question de l’injustice sociale dans cette part... more Les « Printemps arabes » ont reposé avec force la question de l’injustice sociale dans cette partie du monde. Mais l’étude serrée des situations du Maroc et de la Tunisie relativise la pertinence de l’événement comme aune d’analyse. Les mouvements contestataires l’ont souvent précédé et n’en ont pas toujours procédé. Par ailleurs, les péripéties des années 2011-2014 ont redéfini la question de l’injustice sociale à travers le rapport des partis ou des organisations islamiques à l’État, à la nation, au néolibéralisme, à l’exercice du pouvoir. Il convient de remonter en amont des Printemps arabes pour comprendre les politiques publiques d’inclusion des pauvres, la mise à distance de territoires stigmatisés, la construction idéologique de vrais (ou faux) problèmes, tels que la « jeunesse », l’« employabilité » de la main-d’oeuvre ou les « rentes » économiques. En définitive, c’est le processus même de formation de l’État qui se voit requalifié comme une matrice d’inégalité légitime, en permanente mutation au gré des rapports de force et des luttes sociales. Fruit d’une réflexion collective et d’un travail de terrain au long cours, cet ouvrage permet de repenser le politique en dehors de la logorrhée exaltant (ou disqualifiant) les Printemps arabes. Il replace ces derniers dans leur profondeur historique. À la confluence de la sociologie politique et de l’anthropologie, il ouvre de nombreuses pistes comparatives au-delà du seul Maghreb.

Tunisia’s 2019 elections produced a vote against the establishment and a fragmented political lan... more Tunisia’s 2019 elections produced a vote against the establishment and a fragmented political landscape in which it was challenging to form a government. The Parliament is deeply divided and lacks a clear foundation for stable and efficient policymaking, while the new president has neither political experience nor a party to implement his agenda. The 2019 elections may have finally ended the transactional power-sharing agreement forged by Ennahda and representatives of the old regime, which long ignored major socio-economic challenges.
The post-2019 government must build on its successful response to the covid-19 pandemic to create a compromise that shares the burden of economic reform between major political actors and interest groups.
If it fails to do so, the resulting rise in economic and social tension could empower anti-democratic forces and destabilise Tunisia.

Five years have passed since Mohamed Bouazizi's self-immolation and Ben Ali's departure, and ambi... more Five years have passed since Mohamed Bouazizi's self-immolation and Ben Ali's departure, and ambivalence prevails in the representations and perceptions of Tunisia. While the international community celebrates Tunisia as the Arab world's sole example of a successful transition towards democracy, Tunisian citizens are disillusioned with the unfinished democratisation process, sapped by terrorism, unemployment and unrelenting corruption. Putting aside the oversimplistic categories of success or failure, this paper offers a review of the social and political changes that have been achieved since 2011. It contextualises historical developments that have thrown Tunisia into turmoil since the "Arab Spring", in order to give a more accurate picture of specifically the Tunisian trajectory.

In que-sta città, che funge simultaneamente da magazzino di stoccag-gio e da piazza degli affari per l'organizzazione dell'economia regionale transfrontaliera, si è tradizionalmente concentrato l'essenziale del commercio illegale e dei traffici di carburante libico. Meddeb, La rivoluzione delle partenze 5 LA "RIVOLUZIONE" DELLE PARTENZE GLI SCAFISTI TUNISINI E L'EMIGRAZIONE IRREGOLARE NEL MEDITERRANEO DI HAMZA MEDDEB (CERI/SCIENCES PO, FASOPO) 21 NOVEMBRE 2011 L'esodo di oltre 25.000 migranti clandestini all'indomani del crollo del regime di Ben Ali ha sollevato enormi tensioni in meri-to alla gestione dei flussi migratori all'interno dell'Unione euro-pea. La controversia scoppiata tra Francia e Italia nell'aprile 2011 riguardo al trattamento da accordare ai migranti tunisini in arri-vo a Lampedusa è stata di tale intensità da far contemplare la possibilità di ristabilire le frontiere all'interno dello spazio Schengen. Il governo italiano è stato accusato di aver violato le regole di Schengen per aver aggirato le condizioni di rilascio dei permessi di soggiorno; peraltro, il suo omologo francese, prin-cipale accusatore, aveva fatto altrettanto, avendo impedito la libera circolazione dei migranti muniti dei documenti di sog-giorno e di viaggio ufficialmente in regola. Religion and Politics. Religious diversity, Political fragmentation and Geopolitical tensions in the MENA rEGIONS

Motivated by the need to inform the enduring and unresolved debates about religion and politics i... more Motivated by the need to inform the enduring and unresolved debates about religion and politics in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, this report focuses on the relation between social change and religious diversity and the challenges this poses for the state–religion relationship. It also draws attention to the pluralization of the religious sphere, the individualization of religion and the unlikely return of a state monopoly of Islam. In a context marked by growing instability (coups d’état, popular uprisings, conflicts, political uncertainty), this report examines the future of political Islam, a major ideological trend in the region. It aims to offer a detailed historical and sociological analysis of the different trajectories of moderate political Islam movements, the emerging processes of doctrinal transformation, electoral and governmental participation and the extent to which they have challenged both Islamist organizations (Muslim brotherhood-affiliated organizations, Salafi movements) and jihadi movements (ISIS, al Qaeda). Ultimately, the report analyses the relations between religion and politics within Shiism (one of the two major branches of Islam), within Christian communities and finally within the major non-Muslim majority society in the region, Israel. Strongly objecting to prevailing reductionist and essentialist misrepresentations of the region and their sweeping doom-mongering generalizations, the report sheds light on the distinct dynamics of local histories, inter-organizational competition, the arising ideological tensions and geopolitical rivalries.

Ce sont moins les grands agrégats, les politiques publiques et les critères économiques qui ont été ici considérés que leur articulation aux dynamiques sociales et politiques. Pour ce faire, nous avons procédé en trois temps.

Cette thèse doit énormément à mon terrain en Tunisie. Les témoignages, les récits et les séquences de vie recueillis constituent le coeur de mon analyse.
