The formula satisfies several criteria of theoretical and practical significance. We tested the formula's validity and usefulness with bibliographical references from the INSPEC database, mainly from the physical sciences. Enforced alphabetical sorting, different names of single authors and other statistical disturbances are accounted for. Our results demonstrate that our formula, or any other that satisfies several objective and quantitative criteria, can and often should be used as an additional criterion in the processes of evaluating relative scientific productivity, detecting experts in a given discipline, etc.

A new simple and sensitive dilatometer to measure magnetostriction of ribbons has been developed,... more A new simple and sensitive dilatometer to measure magnetostriction of ribbons has been developed, based on an optical fiber sensor using an annular photodiode. The optical fiber is used bidirectionally, both for emission and detection of light, simplifying the access to the ribbon under test. The working principle is based on the measurement by reflection of the longitudinal displacement of the ribbon end. For a Vitroperm® amorphous ribbon of 100 mm length, 21 mum thickness, and 8.3 mm width, a displacement of 2.571 mum with a maximum uncertainty of 8 nm has been obtained.

This inventory system is of intet~t since it involves both regular and priority replenishment, three reorder points, and cyclical restocking of regular orders. A simulation model is developed to study the impact of demand distribution, cycle time, priority order leadtime, and the quantity of units ordered on the performance of the system. It is found that the frequency of service and days without shortages performance measures can be maximized by setting the reorder points at equal intervals between the zero level and the high level. Also, a power approximation model is presented that estimates the high level that will lead to a desired percent days without shortage percentage.

The tests were for a simulant of waste from the Hanford Tank 241-AZ-101 and featured additions of DOW Corning Q2-3183A Antifoam agent. Results indicated that this antifoam agent (AFA) increased gas holdup in the waste simulant by about a

The columnar morphology of the TiO2 films has been observed with SEM. It has been modelled by means of three layers structures of porous TiO2 of different thickness and filled in with various void/water concentrations. The agreement between measured ellipsometer parameters, tan

This temperature sensor will be used as a total ionizing dose sensor in a radiation monitor that will be on board the Spanish Earth observation satellite SEOSAT/INGENIO. Several samples were irradiated at different dose rates while their response was continuously measured. The sensitivity of the TMP36 to the total ionizing dose has been assessed by studying the evolution of the next three metrics: the output voltage, its temperature dependence and the power consumption. It has been observed that the degradation of these parameters increase significantly at doses higher than about 7 krad(Si), independently of the dose rate.

In... more The time required to image large samples is an important limiting factor in SPM-based systems. In multiprobe setups, especially when working with biological samples, this drawback can make impossible to conduct certain experiments. In this work, we present a feedfordward controller based on bang-bang and adaptive controls. The controls are based in the difference between the maximum speeds that can be used for imaging depending on the flatness of the sample zone. Topographic images of Escherichia coli bacteria samples were acquired using the implemented controllers. Results show that to go faster in the flat zones, rather than using a constant scanning speed for the whole image, speeds up the imaging process of large samples by up to a 4× factor.
