Many times, these risks are not mutually independent. As a result, if treated separately, the overall risk management becomes difficult, less effective and costly. There are various factors based on which the risks can be classified and accordingly classification based risk management strategies can be formulated. As the number of factors grows and the number of possible values in each factor expands, the number of possible combinations of these factor values increases exponentially. It becomes extremely difficult to consider every combination of factor values and assign them a class. Mostly, large number of combinations are missed and hence risks represented by those combinations don't get classified. This leads to some non-systematic approach in risk management. This paper takes a mixed radix approach to classify the risks based on various factors and their values. Here the combinations of factor values are represented by numbers in a mixed radix number system where the base of digits at various positions in the number are mixed. This approach provides a holistic view of the situation and helps in making a complete and consistent classification rule.
